West Highland's Farmers Market Season Finale, October 25, 2026

Sunday mornings on West 32nd Avenue have had the same rhythm since May: canvas tents between Julian and Newton, a line for coffee, someone's dog getting more attention than the tomatoes. That rhythm has four Sundays left this year. The Highlands Farmers Market runs through October 25, 2026, and the way this season's calendar falls, the last morning doesn't just end quietly at 1 p.m. It is followed by an afternoon block party that the Highland Merchants Association has been running as an annual closer.

Most people who've lived here a few seasons treat the market's final weekend the way you'd treat the last week of a farm share: fewer tomatoes, thinner crowds, done by Thanksgiving. That's not quite what's happening this year. October 25 carries two events stacked on the same stretch of pavement, and the second one is bigger than any regular Sunday the market has had all year.

What's Actually Left on the Calendar

Counting forward from today, the remaining Sundays are October 4, October 11, October 18, and October 25. Four markets, not a handful of vague "fall dates." The season itself started May 10, which puts the total run at somewhere in the neighborhood of two dozen Sundays, an unusually long season compared to markets that wrap by Labor Day. Vendors have had roughly five months along this stretch of West 32nd Avenue, and the crowd on any given week still ranges from produce shoppers to people using the market as their one weekly excuse to walk the four blocks from home.

The market itself keeps its usual hours through the finale: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., produce and prepared food and live music, the same footprint it's held all season. Nothing about the morning changes on October 25. What changes is what happens after it ends.

The Afternoon That Follows

At 2 p.m. on October 25, the same corridor turns into the Harvest Festival and Trick-or-Treat Street, running until 5 p.m. along West 32nd Avenue between Perry Street and Lowell Boulevard. It's free, and the lineup is specific: a costume contest, a pumpkin patch, a jump castle, a beer garden, kids' games, a performance from a local acoustic band, and trick-or-treating at storefronts along the route. The Merchants Association bills it as the neighborhood's own version of a harvest closer, distinct from the summer's Highlands Street Fair and the September Oktoberfest that ran further down the same avenue.

The timing matters more than it looks on a flyer. The day's schedule stretches from the market's 9 a.m. opening to the festival's 5 p.m. close, with an hour between them, making for a longer event day than any single Sunday the market has run all season. If you've only ever known the Highlands Farmers Market as a produce-and-coffee errand, October 25 is the one Sunday where staying for the afternoon festival gets you something the rest of the season didn't offer.

The Storefronts That Anchor the Block

Highland Square's retail mix hasn't changed much this year, which is part of what makes the finale work as a neighborhood event rather than a pop-up. Wax Trax Records, which has been in this stretch since 1978, still sells vinyl and stereo equipment a few doors down from 32nd Avenue Books. Beyond the Blackboard covers kids' gear near the Perry Street end. Boutique La Voga handles secondhand fashion, and Westside Books rounds out the strip with new, used, and rare titles. These are the storefronts a trick-or-treat route would naturally run past, since the festival's own footprint sits on the same blocks these shops occupy.

The dining side of the block has shifted more than the retail side. Paperboy, the Austin brunch import, opened here in March 2026 at 3940 West 32nd Avenue, taking over a space that had been Rooted Craft American Kitchen before that and FNG before that. It's now one more breakfast option for anyone planning to hit the market early and stay through the afternoon. A few doors down, Glo Noodle House remains the strip's culinary anchor with a Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction, the kind of recognition that predates most of the newer openings on the avenue and still pulls people in on nights that have nothing to do with farmers markets or harvest festivals.

None of this is a new commercial identity for West Highland. It's the same stretch of 32nd Avenue that's hosted the market since 2014 and the Merchants Association's seasonal events for even longer. What's different this fall is that the calendar lines up two things that don't always land on the same day, and the result is a longer Sunday than the neighborhood usually gets in October.

Where the Day Ends Up

For anyone walking off a market haul or a plate from the beer garden, the closest public green space is Pferdesteller Park, a few blocks off the main strip with a playground, a basketball court, and open grass, though no off-leash area. Dog owners looking for room to let a leash go typically head to Berkeley Lake Park, about a mile and a half north, since Pferdesteller doesn't have the fencing for it. It's not a long walk from Highland Square, but it's far enough that most people treat it as a separate stop rather than part of the same afternoon loop.

That's the actual shape of October 25 this year: a normal market morning, an unusually long afternoon, and a walk home that passes the same bookstore and record shop that have anchored this stretch for years. The four Sundays left aren't a countdown to something ending quietly. One of them is bigger than the rest.
