$50M for Sloan's Lake
In case you haven't seen the news, I am SO proud to share that $50 Million for Sloan’s Lake Sediment Removal (dredging) was announced last week! On September 2nd, I joined Denver Mayor Mike Johnston at the lake for a press conference to announce this incredible investment. Over the last year, the Mayor and his team took the time to learn about the lake and its issues, walking the lake with Sloan's Lake Park Foundation members, listening to our story and advocating for our mission. We are so grateful that he listened, and fought to find money for this project in a difficult budget time. Along with Councilwomen Amanda Sandoval and Jamie Torres, the Sloan’s Lake Park Foundation has been integral in the movement to make this project a reality. As a board member, committee member, and long time supporter of Jamming on the Jetty and the neighborhood, I'm so proud of our community! For anyone who has supported the Foundation, donated their money, or volunteered their time and energy to our cause, THANK YOU!
Many have asked if that means that the Foundation's work is done. Simply said, it is not. The $50M investment will ensure that the dredging project will commence, but this is a project of massive scope. The $50M will be used to dredge the lake of sediment buildup, which will restore the water's depth and will prevent the harmful algae blooms that the lake has experienced the last few summers. City officials are saying the project could start as soon as 2028. Permitting will likely take a year. The work is far from done, and we will continue our efforts to ensure the project stays on track, the park stays clean and the public is informed. The Foundation is also committed to activating and bringing the community together! Our 11th annual live music celebration, Jamming on the Jetty, is just around the corner, on Saturday, September 19th.
Jamming on the Jetty brings our community together for live music, local food, family fun, and love for the lake. I will once again sponsor the event and host a booth (this year with glitter tattoos!). Little Man Ice Cream will again host a Kids Zone, where kids can enjoy games, crafts, activities and ice cream.
For funsies, I took a stroll down memory lane to remember some Jamming on the Jetty events of the past. Yes, I will be wearing the OG light blue shirt again this year:)
